Avoiding job scams
A legitimate employer — and Waholi — will never ask you to pay to apply, pay a deposit, or pay any fee to get a job. If anyone asks you for money to apply, to "secure" a position, for "training", for a visa, or for accommodation before you have started work, treat it as a scam and report it.
Waholi moderates content — it does not verify people
Waholi reviews job listings against its content policy and removes ones that break the rules. This is content moderation, not identity verification. We do not verify the identity, legitimacy, or visa-sponsorship status of any employer or job seeker. A listing being visible is not an endorsement — content policy reviewed, not identity-verified. Always verify an employer independently before sharing personal documents or money.
Common scams targeting working-holiday workers
- Pay-to-apply / deposit scams — any request for money to apply or start.
- Fake "agency" fees — Waholi is an advertising board and never charges seekers.
- Illegal or visa-violating work — e.g. adult-entertainment work is prohibited on a working-holiday visa.
- Bait-and-switch listings — wages, hours, or housing that change after you apply.
- Document/identity harvesting — requests for passport or bank details before any legitimate hiring step.
How to protect yourself
- Never pay to apply or to "secure" a job.
- Verify the employer independently (official website, public reviews, address).
- Keep conversations and offers in writing.
- Ensure any work complies with your working-holiday visa conditions.
- Report any suspicious listing — we review reports within 24–48 hours.
